Life Insurance products are a critical investment in your family’s future as they provide a lump sum monetary benefit to your loved ones in the event of your death. A correctly tailored Life Insurance policy may therefore ensure your family continues to enjoy their current standard of living in the event of your death.
Total and Permanent Disability Insurance (commonly abbreviated as TPD) operates similar to Life Insurance. In the event you are no longer able to earn an income due to disablement it will pay a lump sum monetary benefit upon a successful claim.
Income Protection Insurance, also known as Salary Continuance Insurance, covers between 75% and 85% of your current monthly salary in the event you become disabled and unable to work. Income Protection Insurance usually has a 30, 60 or 90 day waiting period and the policy holder may choose whether to have a policy that pays for a specified number of years or until a specified age (commonly age 65). Thus, if your insurance policies are structured correctly, you may receive a lump sum benefit from your Total and Permanent Disability Insurance to cover your existing liabilities such as mortgages and personal debt as well as 75% of your existing monthly salary to cover your daily living expenses in the event of disablement. Income Protection insurance premiums are tax deductible, and the benefits are taxable.
Trauma Insurance, also known as Critical Illness or Crisis Recovery Insurance, pays a benefit to the policy holder in the event of a Trauma such as heart attack, cancer or stroke. With one in three Australians likely to suffer from a heart attack, stroke or cancer during their lifetime, it is imperative that you consider an appropriate level of Trauma insurance for yourself. Recovery time after a critical illness can take months, sometimes years. Trauma Insurance ensures that you are financially covered for some of the recovery time in the event of a critical illness.
For families with children, Child Trauma Insurance should be an imperative add-on to their Life Insurance policy. Child Trauma cover will pay a nominated benefit to the family in case one of their children becomes critically ill. Such a payment may allow you to spend more time being with and looking after your loved ones rather than working to ensure that the family expenses are covered. Child Trauma policies are available as add-ons to your Life Insurance policies and may become separate Life Insurance policies for your children with some insurance providers when your children reach a certain age.

Ownership protection can provide the continuing owners, or their nominee, with sufficient cash for the transfer of the outgoing owner’s equity to the continuing owners, if a business owner dies, is disabled or suffers a critical illness.

Katriel has in excess of 20 years of accounting and finance experience. He has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and an Honours Degree in Accounting. He is a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) and a Qualified Financial Planner.
